The Art of Dancing, An Introduction to Baroque Dance

Beginning in the French court of Louis XIV, the late 17th century saw the development of a dance technique that would become the basis for classical ballet.

Join for an exploration of Baroque Dance.

We will learn the steps and "figures" of the Minuet, and other popular dance forms of the Baroque period, as they would have been performed at court, on the stage or in the ballroom. Discover how the dances were preserved through a notation system that allows the dance historians of today to reconstruct dances from the 17th and early 18th century.

This is a multi discipline class for dancers, singers and actors. There will be additional discussion on topics of deportment/manners and how the fashions of the period informed the movement quality.
